REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT BRI Multifinance Indonesia (BRI Finance) supported productive villages to grow sustainably, through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program that targets environmental aspects, by donating waste management facilities and infrastructure.
BRI Finance Risk Management Director Ari Prayuwana said, in implementing its various CSR programs, BRI Finance is committed to strengthening the implementation of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. At the end of last December, BRI Finance chose Sukadunia Village, Cilawu District, Garut, West Java for the CSR program.
He said the village was a tourist area that gathers MSME businesses such as cuanki, yoghurt, and dairy businesses which support the village to grow productively and sustainably. BRI Finance chose this village was because there was lack of waste management facilities and infrastructure in Sukawarni Village. During this event, BRI Finance distributed around 70 waste sorting stations.
BRI Finance were committed to directly support sustainable economic growth. In strengthening sustainable economic growth, environmental aspects cannot be ignored. "This is one of the main focuses of a sustainable business and was in line with the aspirations of our parent company, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Bank BRI)," Ari said, Thursday (4/1/2024).
This CSR program also proves the Company's commitment to becoming a leading financing company. It was also an evidence that BRI Finance prioritize sustainable growth. "With this assistance, we also want to raise awareness among MSME there that when they do business and develop the economy, it can also be accompanied by efforts to protect the surrounding environment. So we can transmit the BRI Finance business spirit which was always in line with sustainable principles," he said.
On the occasion of implementing the CSR program in Garut, the Head of Sukawarni Village, H. Ajat Sudrajat, said that empowering MSMEs through village tourism was one way for the community there to advance the economy in their village. Sukawarni Village is a finalist in the Desa BRILiaN program, which is an effort made by Bank BRI to encourage sustainable innovation for villages and Village-Owned Enterprises.
The aim of Desa BRILiaN was to support sustainable growth of the village economy, digitalization implemented in villages that use BRI Group products as well as innovation aspects as a creative village that solves village community and social problems and strengthening sustainability as a village that is able to improve the welfare of village communities through the village's superior business sector. With assistance from BRI Finance in synergy with Bank BRI, Ajat admits that the development of tourist villages in the area has become more complete. This was because environmental aspects are being paid more attention.
Often efforts to advance the economy have an impact on environmental problems because empowerment was not balanced. "We thank BRI Finance for supporting community businesses here from an environmental perspective. Because this assistance will be accompanied by further cooperation with related parties in waste management. So that our village has a more protected environment as a tourist village," he added.
