REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ahead of the final debate of the 2024 Presidential Election, which included discussion of social welfare, TKN Communications Team Commander Prabowo Gibran, Budisatrio Djiwandono revealed the goals that the Number 2 Couple wants to achieve in this field. He called the reduction of poverty numbers and the elimination of absolute poverty accompanied by the alignment of farmers and fishermen in the villages as the main targets.
“Prabowo Gibran made poverty alleviation a major concern. The target is that in the first two years we will abolish extreme poverty to 0 per cent, and also push the poverty rate down to below five per cent within five years of government. Currently it is still 9.36 percent,” Budisatrio explained to reporters on Thursday (1/2/2024).
Prabowo Gibran, Budisatrio continued, committed to continuing the social welfare programs that are currently running well under President Jokowi's administration.
“In our mission vision, there is a major majority in this regard. That is, continuing and improving social welfare cards and business cards. Programs such as KIS, KIS Elderly, KIP, Kartu Sembako, Prakerja, Mekar and PKH will continue. From the latest developments, we will abolish the Farmers' Card and replace it with a more effective one to guarantee the availability of fertilizer for farmers,” Budisatrio said.
One of the biggest problems of this social assistance, according to the Deputy Chairman of Commission IV of the DPR RI, is ensuring timely and targeted distribution. “The complaints we often encounter on the field are not on target. We have to refine this. It is necessary to constantly improve and update the recipient data, of course in accordance with existing legislation. The principles are transparency, accountability and the role and the community. There can be no corruption on small people's rights like this,” he explained.
The second strategy, Budisatrio continues, is to carry out collaboration and synergies between social welfare programs. “There is a need to strengthen synergies, even integration, between social welfare programs that are currently still spread across a number of ministries and agencies, local governments, and the business world. We can do this with the use of a Unified Database (BDT). We will also encourage the implementation of the Single Identity Number in accordance with the mandate of Law no.40 of 2004 on the National Social Security System,” Budisatrio Djiwandono.
Finally, the Deputy General Chairman of the Gerindra Party stressed the need for efforts to promote people's independence so that poverty alleviation can be sustainable. “In the long-term solution, we will encourage self-reliance through community empowerment and job creation. However It is also related to the timeliness or timing of the provision of social assistance. At critical times such as the Covid pandemic, or like last year's El Nino that caused crop failures, people must be helped, aid distributed as soon as possible so that people do not fall back into poverty,” Budisatrio said.
