REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Makkah, is basically a place of prayer that is required as a whole. But there are certain locations that have emphasis.

For example, there are three prayer areas that are considered the most necessary in the Masjid al-Haram, namely Hijr Ismail, Rukun Yamani, and Maqam Nabi Ibrahim.

Former Mufti of Egypt Sheikh Jum'ah elaborated, the Hijr Ismail refers to an area that sits under a gutter or aqueduct located at the top of the Kaaba.

However, Shaykh Jum'ah also stated that there is no evidence that definitively states that prayer in Hijr Ismail is a mustajab. Hijr Ismail is believed to be the most necessary place of prayer because many worshippers report their personal experiences. In other words, these beliefs are based more on the experience of worshippers.

Related to the axiom of the primacy of the Hijr Ismail, referring to several histories of hadith. Of Abu Hurairah, the Prophet Muhammad said: “O Abu Hurairah, at the door of Hijr Ismail there is an angel who always tells everyone who enters and prays two rakaat in Hijr Ismail, (then) your sins have been forgiven. Then start with your new practice.

In another story, from Aisyah RA, it is said that the Prophet Muhammad said:

صلِّي في الحجر إذا أردتِ دخول البيت، فإنما هو قطعة من البيت

“Pray here (Hijr Ismail) if you want to pray in the Kaaba, because this is part of the Kaaba.”

Another story mentions that Multazam is the place where prayers are given. Ibn Abbas (peace be upon him) heard that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

الْمُلْتَرَمُ مَوْضِعٌ يُسْتَجَابُ فِيْهِ الدُّعَاءُ مَا دَعَا اللَّهَفِيْهِ عَبْدٌ إِلا اسْتَجَابَهُ

“Multazam is a place where prayer is given. No servant prays to Allah in that place unless his prayer is accepted. It is narrated from some scholars that Multazam is the passage between the Yamani Rukun and the western door of the Kaaba.

Hasan Bashri once wrote letters to the people of Makkah. The letter lists 12 of the most necessary places of prayer around the Kaaba. The twelve are; when Thawaf; when in Multazam; under Mizab (gutter); in the Kaaba; when in the well of Zamzam; when in shafa and marwa; when running between Shafa and Marwah; Maqam Ibrahim; Padang Arafat; Muzdalifah; Mina; and when throwing Jumrah in three places.

Shaykh Maulana Muhammad Zakarriya Al-Kandahlawi states, in the book of Durrul-Mantsur there is a story that the place of the mustajab was Multazam, under Mizab, Rukun Yamani, Shafa, Marwah, the place between Hajar Aswad and Maqam Ibrahim, in the Kaaba, Mina, Muzdalifah, Arafat, and three places throwing demons.

Some scholars also mention other places where it is necessary to pray. Among other things is the ma'thaf (place of thawaf), when looking at the Kaaba, Hathim, and the place between Hajar Aswad and Rukun Yamani.

In his description, Shaykh Jum'ah also reminds that prayer in the Masjid al-Haram must be with pure sincerity and intention. Thus, the prayer becomes a necessity granted by Allah.

In fact, the entire area of the Holy Land of the Kaaba is the place where prayer is most likely to be fulfilled. When you first see the Kaaba, or when you are at the door of the Kaaba, the extended prayer becomes the prayer that Allah will most likely accept.
