REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk on Thursday (14/11/2024) received a visit from Deputy Minister of BUMN RI Dony Oskaria received directly by Acting President Director of Krakatau Steel M. Akbar DJohan. This visit by Wamen BUMN RI visited several places in Krakatau Cilegon Industrial Area, including Hot Strip Mill 1 (HSM 1) plant facility, Cold Rolling Mill, as well as Krakatau Steel Group facilities and affiliates.
“The visit of SOE Deputy Minister Dony Oskaria is an honor for us, it is an opportunity to introduce our strategic facilities and expose their development to the future,” said Executive Director of Krakatau Steel Muhamad Akbar in a written statement in Jakarta, Thursday (14/11/2024).
Akbar explained that currently the recovery process of Krakatau Steel's HSM 1 plant facility is still ongoing and it is expected that in the near future it will be ready to operate again.
“At present, we have started preparing everything including sales planning so that when the reoperation of HSM 1 plant facilities is carried out, everyone has to carry out production according to the needs of the order,” Akbar said.
Akbar said Krakatau Steel's HSM 1 facility has a production capacity of Hot Rolled Coil steel products per aplate up to 2.4 million tons per year. The needs of HRC steel products are mostly used for raw materials of steel pipes, heavy equipment, ships, automotive industry and infrastructure needs.
Akbar delivered Cold Rolling Mill plant facilities to produce Cold Rolled Coil per Plate steel products with a capacity of up to 850 thousand tons per year that are usually used for automotive industry raw materials, galvanized, galvalum, as well as downstream steel-steel products for construction and household needs. Krakatau Steel, Akbar continued, is currently continuing its transformation, restructuring, and business strategy development.
With the reactivation of the HSM 1 facility and supported with other facilities, Krakatau Steel's potential to rise and grow rapidly is very possible, especially with the support of the government for national industrial independence.
“We are committed to be able to continue contributing and driving the progress of the national steel industry with the sustainability of Krakatau Steel's efforts,” Akbar said.
During his visit, Deputy Minister of SOE Dony Oskaria stated that the Ministry of SOE continues to support Krakatau Steel's strategic development in line with the national industrial independence and downstream program echoed by President Prabowo Subianto. Dony said Krakatau Steel is one of the strategic state-owned enterprises that can support national industrial progress and contribute to Indonesia's economic growth.
“We support Krakatau Steel's current restructuring and transformation process as a comprehensive solution, including the operation of the HSM 1 steel plant this year. We also hope that the current management can bring Krakatau Steel into a new company with a view to business sustainability,” Dony said.
