Sistani urges Iraqis to cooperate with new PM

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN -- Iraqi Shia supreme religious leader Ayatollah Sistani urged all political parties in Iraq parliament to cooperate with the new Prime Minster Haider al-Abadi in forming a new powerful and efficient cabinet.

According to Al-Iraqiya Network Website, the ayatollah stressed that Iraq, because of facing with dangerous developments, severely needs to have new characters in its governmental posts to face with difficult crises in the country.

Seyed Ahmad Safi, His Excellency?s representative, said in Karbala Friday Prayers, that given national agreement on al-Abadi?s premiership and positive reactions by regional and international sides, an appropriate and exceptional opportunity has been created, to settle Iraq?s all problems, especially political and security ones.

He underlined that fighting against financial and administrative corruption should be among one of the first priorities of the upcoming government.

Iraq?s Premier Nuri al-Maliki, in a live speech on Iraqi TV on Thursday evening, said he would not seek the post anymore and supprted al-Abadi as the new premier of Iraq.

Al-Abadi was recently designated by Iraq President Fouad al-Massoum to form a new cabinet in Iraq.
