REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla gives great attention to the Indonesian Islamic Center (IIC) in London which has intention to build its own mosque in the British Kingdom.

"The Vice President has great attention to the presence of the IIC in London and its desire to build its own mosque," IIC London Chairman Memet P Hasan said here on Sunday.

Memet P Hasan said that Kalla in his capacity as the chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) would contribute idea on how to find ways out to realize the Indonesian people's willingness to build an Indonesian mosque in London.

Memet P Hasan met with Kalla in the house of the Vice President's daughter to introduce other IIC's executives such as Berry Natalegawa and Ustad (preacher) Hamin.

"We explained about the IIC mission in London as a center of Islamic studies, worship and observation of Islamic holidays for Indonesian Muslims in London and the vicinity," he said.

He added that with a mosque, the Islamic center can assist children in learning classes, a library, a Muslim shop and an Indonesian canteen.

Memet said that the presence of the IIC in London also helped provide understanding for the people and government of Britain that Islam is a peaceful religion which respects social values and religious tolerance and is anti violence, extremism and terrorism.

He also told the Vice President about the IIC London's program in raising funds in Colindale to build a mosque in London.

The IIC is relocating a property of its own in Colindale from a location designed for settlement to a location suitable for the IIC activities.

The value of the property is about 400,000 pound sterling. With the relocation, a fund of 1,250,000 pound sterling is needed to buy a and renovate building. So, about 850,000 pound sterling is still needed, he said.
