REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Police Chief General Tito Karnavian will be a keynote speaker at an international meeting on counter-terrorism to be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on August 10.

The police chief will talk about a possible regional connection of the terrorist group ISIS.

"Groups supporting the ISIS already exist in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia as proven by the bombings at Thamrin and Solo. Kidnappings by Abbu Sayyaf have also been very rampant. There is a possible connection among all of these," General Tito Karnavian said at the office of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, here on Wednesday.

Every country in the world, not only in Southeast Asia, must rise to fight terrorism because the extraordinary crime poses a threat to international peace and security, as well as social and economic development, he added.

The forthcoming International Meeting on Counter-Terrorism, being held under the theme, "Countering Cross-Border Movement of Terrorism," is a separate event that will be convened back-to back with the 2nd Counter-Terrorism Financing Summit, jointly organized by the Indonesian Transaction Report and Analysis Centre (PPATK) and the Australian Transaction Report and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC). It will be held from August 8-11, 2016 at the same venue.

The meeting aims to strengthen the international cooperation network in addressing the growing threat of cross-border ramifications of terrorism, which includes actors, information and also finance flows, among others.

It will also focus on the emergence of the new phenomenon of FTFs as well as the mis-utilization of cyber technology in spreading the ideas of extremism and radicalism.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for various countries to enhance collective efforts in countering terrorism, particularly regarding the uncontrolled movement of terrorists.

Discussions will include exchange of views and sharing of intelligence information, lessons learned, and also best practices in countering terrorism, including terrorism financing, weapon smuggling, counter-radicalization and de-radicalization.
