REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA - Sixty five Muslim figures and 50 Islamic students from South Thailand learned about Islami and its culture in Yogyakarta, from Thursday to Friday. Head of Regional Office at Ministry of Religious Affairs in Yogyakarta, Maskul Haji explained they had dialog with the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and visited Islamic Boarding Shcool of Krapyak Yogyakarta.

"Muslims are still minority in Thailand, but Indonesian Muslims are the majority here without desire to build an Islamic state," Haji said on Friday.

Haji said the Thai Muslim figures and students chose Yogyakarta because the special region was unique. Yogyakarta had a society with diverse cultures and religions, but its people live in coexistence peacefully and calmly. 

All of them also met with Minister of Religious Affairs, Suryadharma Ali. It aimed to build cooperation in Islamic education. Indonesia will also send preachers to Thailand to foster religious life in Thailand.
