REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --  Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo has appreciated the role of ulamas in guiding and cooling down the mass during the November 4th rally. The ulamas was able to control and persuade the mass not to do anarchy. He also appreciated the ulamas as they were not easily provoked and stayed with their original intention.

"As a Muslim, I knew that Muslims who joined the rally on Friday (11/4) were good people coming from the mosques to express their aspirations," Gatot said in a press release received by Republika.co.id, Monday (11/7).

Gatot added the rally has showed that Islam in Indonesia is democratic Islam and known as a blessing for all universe. "The international communities have acknowledged, Islam in Indonesia as Islamic democracy, as a blessing for all universe (rahmatan lil alamin)," said Gatot.

On Friday (11/4), more than a million of mass joined in the National Movement of Supporters Fatwa Indonesian Council of Ulama (GNPF MUI) to demonstrate in front of the State Palace. They urged legal process completion of alleged case of blasphemy involving Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok).
