REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Rallies to protest against Israel for tightening its grip on Al Aqsha Mosque Compound, third holiest site of Islam, were held in Solo (Central Java) and Tasikmalaya (West Java) after Friday prayers.

In Solo, hundreds of people grouped in the Alliance of Surakarta Students and Youths Caring for Palestine, condemned Israel for committing crimes against humanity and hurting the sacredness of Al Aqsha, which is the first qibla (direction faced during prayers) of Muslims.

In Tasikmalaya, hundreds of residents grouped in the People's Committee for Palestinians (KNRP), marched from Adipura Statue at downtown to Asmaul Husna Statue.

Restriction of access to Al Aqsha and violence against Palestinians are also hurting the feelings of Muslims all over the world, Oman Rohman, coordinator of the rally said.

Thousands of people also joined the rally in Bandung, West Java, on Friday.

"We want to let our brothers/sisters in Palestine know that they are not alone," Gaos Abdul Hamid, spokesman of the Alliance of Community to Save Al Aqsha (AMSA), remarked.

Similar protests against Israel were also organized in Jakarta and Bandung (West Java).

The rallies were part of simultaneous protests dubbed "Day of Rage" held by Muslims all over the world after performing Friday mass prayers to protest the tightening grip on Al Aqsha by Israeli occupying forces and to show support to Palestinians for guarding Al Aqsha.

(QS. Al-Ma'idah ayat 6)
