REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDAR LAMPUNG - A female Sumatra Rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) named Ratu finally gave birth on Saturday in Way Kambas National Park, East Lampung. Ratu had been pregnant for 15-16 months before a male rhino was successfully born healthy. Both of them are now under protection to maintain their condition.

The birth of a new rhino is a historical event in the world amid the decreasing amount of Sumatra Rhino -now in "critically endanger" status. No rhino is successfully born naturally in its habitat in the last 120 years. It is now only 200 Sumatra Rhino left in their habitat, and 10 outside their habitat (four in SRS TNWK, three in Sabah Malaysia, and three in US).

Built in 1998, SRS TNWK is a place to protect the population of Sumatra Rhino in the world. It has only four Rhino, one male and three females.
