REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) would meet Australian prime minister Julia Gillard at the Indonesia-Australia Annual Leaders` Meeting in Darwin, Australia, a presidential spokesman, TeukuFaizasyah, said. SBY would leave for Darwin on July 2, said Teuku Faizasyah, the presidential special aide for foreign affairs, in a press statement on Friday.
The previous Indonesia-Australia Annual Leaders` Meeting was held in Bali on November 20, 2011. This time, Teuku said, the two leaders would discuss ways to increase economic cooperation between the two countries.
"There will be a boost in economic activities between Indonesia`s eastern regions and Australia`s Northern Territory," he added.
The two leaders would also follow up on the agreement made in Bali. Besides attending the leaders` meeting, SBY is scheduled to receive a courtesy call from Northern Territory chief minister Paul Raymond Henderson and opposition leader Tony Abbott. He is also scheduled to meet with Australian businessmen from the Australia-Indonesia Business Council.
Then, SBY will visit the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre at Royal Darwin Hospital. The Australian hospital has set up a cooperation program with Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar, Bali. SBY, in the company of First Lady Any Yudhoyono, and his entourage are scheduled to return to Indonesia on July 4.
