REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI - Poaching or illegal hunting still poses as a main threat for Sumatran Tiger (Panthera Tigris Sumatrae), according to the researcher of HarimauKita Forum, Darmawan Kusmanto. "Poaching still occurs almost in all habitats of Sumatran tiger," Kusmanto said on Monday.

Based on the study of Sheppard and Magnus, at least 235 Sumatran tigers are taken from its habitat from 1998-2002. Even the research from Mills and Jackson shows more shocking result. It says that more than 3,990 kilograms bones of Sumatran tigers are exported illegally to South Korea during 1970-1993.

"Most of the meat becomes the main ingredient of medicine," he said.
