A foreign investor eyes Indonesian gold mining

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TERNATE – An investor from China interests on gold mining in West Halmahera, North Maluku. The company now sought cooperation on other natural resources, such as fisheries, the Head of Public Relations and Protocol at the Local Government, Syarif Ali, said, without mentioning the company's name.

Ali said the investor would soon send its team to survey several gold-potential locations in West Halmahera. While the team has collaborated with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), the study then will be reported to local government of Halmahera. 

While the regent of West Halmahera, Namto Roba, welcomed the investor’s initiative to build fish processing manufacture. He expects such gesture can help to improve the people’s standard of life. Hence, he promised to help the investor to ease the permit process. Yet, he also reminded that the business plan must not ignore the nature conservation.
