REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR - International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) announced that five Indonesian biggest cooperatives failed to be listed in 300 largest cooperative organizations around the world or known as Global300 Report.
Deputy of Cooperative and Small Medium Enterprises Department at the Ministry of Cooperative and SMEs, Setyo Heriyanto, said that Indonesian cooperatives were defeated by those in neighboring countries, such as Singapore. Indonesian currently has 192,443 units of cooperatives with 33,687,417 members.
"The five cooperatives did not meet the ICA's requirements," he said on Tuesday in the sidelines of Developing Global300 Conference. The revenue of each cooperative is far below the requirement, which is 12 trillion IDR. Even the biggest cooperative in Indonesia only has revenue of 7.7 trillion IDR.
Another factor is that Indonesian cooperatives cannot manage the funds of corporate social responsibility (CSR). "Some do not even have websites," he said.
