REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Officials of the ruling Democratic Party claims that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) appoints Roy Suryo as the next Minister of Youth and Sports. The former minister, Andi Mallarangeng, who is also from Democratic Party, stepped down from his office as he was named as a suspect of Hambalang graft case.
"I heard the news that Roy Suryo has been appointed as the new Minister of Youth and Sports," a member of Democratic Party Central Board, Ahmad Mubarok, said on Thursday.
While Speaker of Democratic Party Faction in the parliament, Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, more convincing and she confirmed that Roy Suryo had stepped down from faction and commission.
State Palace has not formally announced the inauguration of Roy Suryo. However, Democratic Party ensures that SBY announce the decision on Friday.
Meanwhile, Indonesian football shows their doubt on Suryo's capability. The Chairman of Indonesian Football People, Sarman, said challenges in sports were not only solving problems, but also reaching the targets of achievement.
"I think he does not have a clear vision," Sarman said. Political background cannot guarantee that Suryo can solve Indonesian football problems. Sarman doubts that Suryo can solve the biggest problems in Indonesian football. He explained that sport world could not be led by political figure.
