Govt tightens rules over practice of hiring foreign pilots

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Ministry of Transportation has set strict requirements over practice of hiring foreign pilots by Indonesian airlines due to the safety reasons. According to the new rule, foreign pilots must have adequate experience on the type of plane they fly.

Directorate General of Air Transportation requires each foreign pilot to have at least 250 flying hours for the given of aircraft. According to a press release, this new regulation put into effect on January 10. Currently, 600 foreign pilots are working in Indonesian airlines, such as Lion Air, Citilink, Garuda, Wings Air, and Sriwijaya Air. Until 2015, Indonesia needs at least 8,000 pilots to.
