REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The first lady Ani Yudhoyono launched three 'smart ships' to Indonesian navy on Tuesday, for people in remote locations. The smart ships contain library and mobile learning tools expected to help people getting information and communication access.

The smart ships are handed to Tanjung Pinang Naval Base, Makassar Naval Base and Jayapura Naval Base. The libraries inside the ships are provided for students from pre school to high school level. The ships are donated by Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) and Bank Mandiri. Executive Director of BNI, Gatot M Suwondo, said the smart ships would be operated periodically, visiting remote villages and cooperating with local departments.

The five tonnes of 15 meters lngteh is designed as mobile library containing science books and tools for pre-school children. BNI allocates three billion IDR for a unit of smart ship.

The Head of Naval Staff, Marsetio, said six naval soldiers will monitor the ships. They will be trained to operate the smart ships along with the mobile library.
