REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Minister of Industry MS Hidayat announces that German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen (VW) will invest in Indonesia in early 2014. Government has issued a permit for VW to invest in Indonesia.
"VW has agreed our demands, such as partnering with domestic company and using local components," Hidayat said during the opening of International Furniture and Craft Fair Indonesia (IFFINA) 2013 on Monday.
In 2012, VW planned to invest 140 million USD in Indonesia. Indonesian government believes VW will bring a big benefit for Indonesian people. He said that VW manufacture production in China surpassed the production of Japanese cars. "VW is very popular," he said.
Hidayat said that VW was interested in investing in Indonesia due to the enormous number of middle class consumers in Indonesia as well as its high income per capita. Currently Indonesia has 50 million people of middle class.
