State-owned firm to enter property business in Myanmar

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State-owned construction firm PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA) will expand property project to Myanmar. The company is interested to build middle class housing in the country.

"We are drafting our plan as well as observing and mapping the area," Director of Human Resources and Business Development of WIKA, Tonny Warsono, said on Sunday. After the early stage is finished, WIKA will make a grand design and start sending materials, by cooperating with PT Semen Indonesia, to Myanmar.

Without mentioning the investment value, Warsono said that all preparations would be finished by the end of 2013. However, he didn't mention the investment value for the project.

Earlier, Minister of State-owned Enterprises, Dahlan Iskan, announced that 15 state-owned companies will expand to Myanmar, starting from PT Timah, PT PLN, GMF Aero Asia, PT Telkom, PT Bukit Asam, Perum Bulog to Wijaya Karya. He said that Myanmar was a promising market with high economic prospect.

By the end of 2012, WIKA recorded a rising on net income in 28.2 percent. The income rose to 457.86 billion IDR, compared to the previous period in 354.50 billion IDR. In 2013, WIKA sets the target of income in 555.06 billion IDR or rising 21.2 percent from 2012.
