REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian state telecommunication company, PT Telkom Indonesia, fails to enter Myanmar. Government of Myanmar has shortlisted 12 international consortia in a bid to win mobile telecom licenses.

"Telkom has met the requirements, but we have different perception on one of the requirements," Operatio Vice President Public Relations Telkom, Arif Prabowo, said on Friday.

In the press release from the Myanmar's Ministry of Communication, Post and Telecommunication, the 12 shortlisted applicants are Vodafone Group Plc, China Moble Ltd, Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, Bharti Airtel Ltd India, MTN Dubai, Digicel Group Jamaika, KDDI Corp. and Sumitomo Corp, Axiata Group Bhd, Telenor ASA Norwegia, Millicom International Cellular SA, Qatar Telecom QSC and  Viettel Group Vietnam.

Yet, Telkom is optimistic that it can expand to Myanmar soon through low risk and potentially high return information and communication technology (ICT), such as digital media and ICT solution.

Responding to the matter, Indonesian Minister for State-owned Entreprises, Dahlan Iskan, said that it was not a problem. "We have tried, but they have strict regulation," Iskan said and emphasized that Telkom would still enter Myanmar through another contract.
