US ambassador inaugurates new GM production in West Java

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - US Ambassador Scot Marciel joined senior executives from General Motors (GM) on May 8 to help inaugurate production at General Motors` new automobile assembly plant in Bekasi, West Java, US Embassy said in written statement on Friday. 

GM invested more than 150 million USD to build the new factory which will manufacture Chevrolet Spin 7-passenger MPV model, nicknamed the `Spirit of Indonesia`. 

The new factory now employs 750 Indonesian staff and will soon be expanding to a second shift. GM opens a number of new dealerships across Indonesia and also plans to export vehicles to other ASEAN countries from its new Bekasi plant.
