REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – An Indonesian businessman, Erick Thohir keen to acquire shares of the Italian League Series A, Inter Milan. Thohir is scheduled to meet President of Inter Milan, Massimo Moratti this week.
The meeting will be the first between Thohir and Moratti. The number one sport newspaper in Italy, La Gazzetta Dello Sport reported that the Indonesian businessman planned to acquire 80 percent shares in Inter Milan.
However, Moratti who owns Inter Milan since 28 years ago is reported not ready to sell most of his shares, mainly because his private reasons. Even so, Moratti needs fresh funds to buy players in the transfer market this summer and to build a new stadium.
"The presence of Erick Thohir will open new important scenario for Inter Milan in the future," La Gazzetta wrote on Thursday.
At the beginning of this week, Moratti has signaled it when he announced the official status of new Inter Milan coach, Walter Mazzarri. He admitted that he was considering an offer from new investor.
"It's under consideration," Moratti said.
Erick's step to acquire international sporting club was not the first time. In the last two years, he bought shares of the basketball team, NBA Philadelphia 76ers, and the United States football league club, DC United.
Thohir is also the owner of two Indonesian basketball clubs, Satria Muda Britama and Indonesia Warriors. He also has shares in a local football club, Persib Bandung.
