The new Indonesian sugar plant to operate next year

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BLORA -- Ministry of Trade expected that Gendis Multi Manis (GMM) Sugar Plant can operate next year. It is a national sugar factory after 50 years.

"We will make sure the plant operation. Blora residents will get benefit from this new plant," Deputy Minister of Trade, Bayu Krisnamurthi said on Sunday.

The plant construction spent cost of 1.7 trillion IDR. It will reduce rendemen - sucrose content of sugar cane crop - up to eight percent.

If the plant is successful, government plans to build other sugar factory in new region. Demand of sugar in domestic is very high. Indonesia currently produces sugar of 2.5 million tonnes. However, the figure continues to decrease to 2.3 million tonnes, whereas the need reaches five million tonnes.

The new sugar plant has high quality of production, which yet able to be produced by other sugar plants in Indonesia.

Krisnamurthi said that government should pay attention to sugar quality. Its initial production will absorb four thousand tonnes cane per day (TCD) and should be increased later to 10 thousands TCD.

"This factory can be the best," Krisnamurthi added.

Sugar plant in Blora is built on area of 3.7 hectares. Its efficiency reaches 85 percent compared to other plants, which only has 75 percent.
