REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The World football organization, FIFA, brought the World Cup trophy to the presidential Palace in Jakarta. FIFA World Cup ambassador Dwight Yorke explained that there were only eight countries that received the trophy, including Indonesia.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono hopes that Indonesia can compete in World Cup someday. He expressed his desire when received representatives of FIFA at Presidential Palace on Tuesday.
"I are grateful that Indonesia is elected as one of resting places of World Cup trophy. Hopefully our own National Team can compete in World Cup matches someday," Yudhoyono said on Tuesday.
Yudhoyono was accompanied by Minister of Youth and Sports (Roy Suryo) and State Secretary (Sudi Silalahi).
FIFA World Cup trophy arrived in Jakarta on Monday and exhibited at Jakarta Convention Center on January, 6-8. President Director of PT Coca Cola Indonesia Martin Gil as sponsor explained that the trophy had traveled 149 thousand miles to various parts of the world before arriving in Indonesia.
Indonesia became the 57th out of 90 countries that had opportunity to bring World Cup trophy in series of tours. FIFA World Cup Trophy has a height of 36.8 cm with a weight of 6.175 kg. It is made of solid 18 carat gold.
