REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KARAWANG - Subsidiary of Japanese electronics giant Sharp, PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia opened a new plant in Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC), West Java on Wednesday. The investment reached 1.2 trillion IDR as expansion of previous plant in Pulogadung, East Jakarta.
This plant was built as domestic demand on home appliances products increasing. The plant was built on the area of 31 hectares and targeted to increase production capacity of refrigerators of 2.64 million units per year and washing machines of 1.68 million units per year.
The plant is expected to fulfill 80 percent of domestic market and 20 percent of export market with a market share of 36 percent of refrigerators and 2 percent of washing machines. President Director of Sharp Electronics Indonesia, Fumihiro Irie said that traffic congestion and floods also influencing the investment.
"We asked government to cope these problems with effective policies in future," Fumihiro said.
