REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State-owned oil company Pertamina would have two more oil tankers now being under a final construction stage at state-owned shipbuilding company PT PAL, a Pertamina executive said. Pertamina's Communications Vice President Ali Mundakir said on Sunday the two tankers were MT Pagerungan and Pangkalan Brandan.
"The official handover of the ships will be carried out in the near future," Ali said.
Pagerungan and Pangkalan Brandan are the first tankers to be produced domestically with a long ton deadweight (LTDW) of 17,500.
"The building of the tankers is part of the efforts to empower industry in the country. They are made in cooperation with state-owned companies," the Pertamina executive said.
He said that Pertamina would continue to place offers with domestic shipbuilding companies. Since 2005, Pertamina has ordered the production of 11 ships at home with a tonnage of 3,500 deadweight ton (DWT) and 6,500 DWT. In 2013 and 2014, Pertamina has also signed contracts for the construction of seven units of 17,500 LTDW oil tankers with domestic shipyard firms.
"The seven general purpose category tankers are scheduled for completion and operation for reinforcing oil distribution in 2015-2016," Ali said.
