REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SANUR -- Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Indroyono Soesilo said the government has four priority programs in the development of the country's maritime sector.
The four programs include maintenance of maritime sovereignty, preservation of maritime natural resources, development of maritime infrastructure and preparation of Indonesia as maritime country, Indroyono here on Saturday.
Development of maritime infrastructure is focused on sea toll road project, one of the visions presented by President Joko Widodo in his pre-election campaign.
Sea toll road project will include development of new ports and modernization of old ports to facilitate sea transport between the country's western and eastern regions.
The toll road project is expected to help accelerate development of in more backward and open isolated areas in the eastern region of the country.
Indroyono said implementation of the four program would open greater opportunities for Indonesia in the future to become a world maritime axis.
He said the country's founding father Soekarno initiated the struggle for maritime sovereignty and"we have to maintain the spirit."
