REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- An observer on politics from Parahyangan University Bandung, Asep Warlan Yusuf, revealed there were three factors contributed to the defeat of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat (Ahok-Djarot) in the Jakarta gubernatorial election.
Based on quick counts from several survey agencies, the Anies-Sandiaga pair had an edge, with about 58 percent of the votes as compared to the Basuki-Djarot pair, with 42 percent of the votes.
Asep said the three factors were related to the figures, programs, and wrong political strategies. "I think the three factors had made Anies-Sandi the winner," he said to Republika.co.id on Wednesday (April 19).
He said Anies-Sandi were known as authoritative and caring person. They were argued to be able to meet the needs and hopes of Jakarta people. Ahok was argued to not having those qualities.

Warlan said Ahok-Djarot also have many failure in bringing their programs. However, he did not mention any detail. The programs made by Anies-Sandi were argued to be able to touch the heart of the voters.
Lastly, Warlan said Ahok-Djarot failed to claimed victory in the election was because of wrong political strategies. He saw the impact was big after the government nor Ahok's team defending Ahok in blasphemy case. "Their effort to defend Ahok was so vulgar and the consequence was big," he remarked.
According to Warlan, the finding of basic needs parcels distribution was not a dominant factors in the defeat of Ahok-Djarot.
