REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor-elect Anies Baswedan opened the opportunity of utilizing reclamation island of Jakarta Bay to be functioned as public facility, such as a harbor. 

"Yes (for being harbor). I said it during the debate. It might be a public place," said Anies in Pondok Gede, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (May 16).  

Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno remained at their stance on stopping the reclamation process. But, for some existing islands, they decided it would be utilized for public facilities.  

"Basically, public facility is something that brings benefit to many people, it is managed by the government or other parties, but it gives benefit for people,” said the former minister of education and culture said.

Anies said he had considered people’s aspiration in making the decision. He gave an example that people in Jakarta wanted to experience open beaches. It would be accommodated by the synchronization team as an idea to be interpreted to their programs.

The head of synchronization team Sudirman Said reiterated the detail on the existing reclamation island's function would be discussed in detail by the team. 

“Our duty is to make studies to what had happen in the field, so it would give benefit to societies and environment. It should not disrupted the environment and the facilities should be able to use by the people,” he said.
