REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) prompted Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to revoke Gubernatorial Decree (Pergub) No. 146/2014 on Technical Guidelines for Building and Licensing Services and Reclamation Facility of the North Coast Strategic Area of Jakarta. Walhi assessed, it will stop polemic of Jakarta bay reclamation project.
"Jakarta Governor needs a breakthrough, in the form of quick and real action so reclamation polemic is not prolonged and obscure existing problems," said Walhi Coastal, Marine, and Small Islands Executive Manager, Ony Mahardika said in a press release on Thursday (November 2).
Walhi also asked Anies to lift Gubernatorial Decree No. 206/2016 and No. 137/2017 that guide the design of Islets C, D and G.
According to Ony, continuing the development process of those islets, would be same as covering environmental crimes.

Ony suggested, after gubernatorial decree been revoked, Anies should not issue permits related to reclamation project continuity.
He assessed, the draft regulation of Plan for Zoning of Coastal Areas and Small Islands (RZWP3K) also has to be reviewed, especially related to articles about reclamation.
Furthermore, Onny said, Jakarta provincial government must to conduct a comprehensive study on the upstream of the Jakarta Bay area and the environmental impacts of established islets.
"The process and the results of the study should be opened to the public," Ony added.
Walhi said Jakarta provincial government need to restore the condition of ecosystems and the environment in the Jakarta Bay area, including the restoration of the area that was built or turned into islets.
In addition, they need to rehabilitate traditional fishermen's living areas in Jakarta Bay participatory.
