Politician warns of foreign intelligence in Aceh and Papua

Indonesian Air Force ask a US military aircraft to land in Aceh after the aircraft entering Indonesian territory on Monday without legal document.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Head of Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Council (BKSAP), Hidayat Nur Wahid warned of foreign intelligence targetting Aceh and Papua. He said that the landing of United States's military aircraft type Dornier 328 series in Aceh early this week needed serious attention.

"Many foreign intelligence officers were detected in Papua and Aceh. No wonder if both regions were often hit by political friction and separatism," said Wahid on Thursday. 

Wahid warned, foreign agents might carry a political motive to destabilize Indonesia and they might also use some issues including human rights as a cover to undermine Indonesian sovereignty. He pointed out that the US military aircrafts that entered Indonesia earlier this week could be part of intelligence. 

Intelligence analyst, Wawan Purwanto asked US government to explain the real reason. "Some reasons such as lacked of fuel or wrong permissions could not be accepted," he said.

Activities of foreign secret, especially the United States, was ever disclosed by the Wikileaks website. In 2010, Wikileaks released 3,059 secret documents of US related to Indonesia. The documents revealed US’ interests on a number of domestic issues, included 2004 Presidential Election, East Timor and The Indonesian National Armed Forces. 

tMeanwhile, whe US has admitted the act of wrongdoing when the US military plane to land at Sultan Iskandar Muda airport in Banda Aceh. The aircraft departed from Maldives to Singapore on Monday but landed in Aceh due to running out of fuel.

"It was our fault," US Ambassador to Indonesia, Scot Marciel said while accompanied US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Wendy R Sherman.
