REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Chairman of Advisory Council of Golkar Party, Akbar Tanjung hinted that the party's cadre, Jusuf Kalla, may proceed if other party nominate him for presidential candidate. Tanjung who was Kalla's rival in 2005 election said that Golkar could not restict Kalla as a candidate.
"If other party nominates Kalla as a presidential candidate, then Golkar party and I cannot hinder his right," Tanjung said on Friday.
Golkar party cannot suspend Kalla since it only potentially lifts his electability, according to Tanjung. He admitted that Golkar proceeded with Aburizal Bakrie as its candidate despite Kalla's electability in some surveys was higher than him.
Some parties have asked Kalla to participate in convention of Democratic Party. Chairman of Democratic Party Council in South Sulawesi, Ilham Arief Sirajuddin openly encouraged Kalla to join convention. However, Kalla is still undecided on his candidacy.
