REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The two competing presidential candidates, Prabowo Subianto and Joko Widodo (known as Jokowi) has met in the second debate held in Grand Melia Hotel, Jakarta on Sunday evening.
Analyst of Indonesian Institute of Sciences, Center for Political Studies (P2P LIPI), Firman Noor said that Prabowo dominated the debate compared to Jokowi in terms of economic development and social welfare.
"Prabowo could identify main problem of people's welfare, namely budget leaks, while Jokowi stuck in technical aspect. He often highlighted his succesfull when serving as Solo mayor and Jakarta governor," Noor said on Sunday evening as reported by C30.
According to Noor, Jokowi often repeated and demonstrated the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP) and Indonesian Health Card (KIS) showing a very technical level and local action. Jokowi also questioned Prabowo about Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), which described his local vision, while Prabowo questioned Jokowi about the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), a global vision.
From the two questions, Noor said that there was fundamental differences between Prabowo and Jokowi's views on economic development and social welfare.
"But, both of them are statesmen. They mutually avoid controversial matters," Noor said.
Jokowi committed to boost Indonesia’s productivity by supporting small and micro businesses. He will also improve the budgeting system at local level. Mewanwhile, Prabowo highlighted issues related to economic nationalism, emphasizing domestic control of the economy.
