REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia's presidential election campaign has ended following the final presidential debate on Saturday evening.

"Today is the final day of all campaign activities. Starting tomorrow July 6 until July 8 no campaign activity is allowed," General Election Commission (KPU) chief commissioner Husni Kamil Malik said when opening the presidential debate on Saturday.

"After the election the presidential and vice presidential candidates that win would be our national leader, the leader of us all and not only one camp. The ultimate winner is the people of Indonesia," he said. "We hope the campaign teams starting tonight would remind all people to exercise restraint and maintain orderliness. We hope Indonesia would be able to become a role model with its election for other nations," he said.

Meanwhile, KPU commissioner Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah said he hoped people would use the cooling-down period from July 6-8 for confirming their choices.

"It is hoped people would use the time for contemplation before they vote on July 9. We hope no campaign team would conduct any kind of campaigning during the period," he said.

Presidential and vice presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa and their rival - Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Jusuf Kalla (JK) debated issues on food, energy and environment during the final meet on Saturday evening.
