REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Chairman of National Mandate Party (PAN), Dradjat Wibowo said that the election of Zulkifli Hasan as Chairman of People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) for period of 2014-2019 based on discussion between Chairman of Democratic Party Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Chairman of PAN Hatta Rajasa.

"Both chairmen discussed it around Isha prayer (the night-time daily prayer) on Tuesday, Oct 7," Wibowo said on Wednesday.

They considered that the figure of MPR chairman should have quality and wide acceptability. Yudhoyono and Hatta agreed to carry out Hasan and immediately communicated it to all members of Red and White Coalition on 09:00 PM at Hotel Mulia.

Chairman of PAN's Advisory Council, Amin Rais as Red and White Coalition advisor also agreed with the decision,

Hasan who is also former minister of forestry was elected after the Coalition proposed a package of Red and White Coalition in the plenary session on Wednesday morning. Hasan who joined the package B gained 347 votes, while package A, which was carried out by Indonesia Hebat Coalition only gained 330 votes.

Package B consisted of Zulkifli Hasan (PAN), accompanied by four deputies, namely Mahyudin (Golkar Party), EE Mangindaan (Democratic Party), Hidayat Nur Wahid (Prosperous Justice Party/PKS) and Oesman Sapta (Region Representatives/DPD). Package A consisted of Oesman Sapta as chairman candidate with four deputies, namely Ahmad Basarah (Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle/PDIP), Imam Nachrawi (National Awakening Party/PKB), Patrice Rio Capella (National Democratic Party/Nasdem) and Hasrul Azwar (United Development Party/PPP).
