REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOYOLALI -- Two climbers of Mount Merapi in Central Java Province have gone astray on Sunday while three ailing climbers have been evacuated and brought to a local hospital, a rescue worker said here Sunday(14/12).
"The search and rescue efforts are still going on," said Samsuri, the rescuer who works for the Plalangan Hamlet's check post.
The missing climbers are identified as Kunto Bagus Satrio, 21-year-old student of the Sebelas Maret State University, and Leo, 21-year-old resident of Central Java city of Magelang, he said.
They went missing while going down from the peak of Mount Merapi but their three ailing friends could reach the second check post.
Like other climbers, they climbed the 2,968-meter-high mountain through the Plalangan Hamlet of Lencoh Village track in Boyolali District, Central Java Province, he said.
The three ailing climbers could have been evacuated, Samsuri said adding that about 300 people climbed the mountain through the Plalangan Hamlet of Lencoh Village track on Saturday.
