REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician Sugianto Sabran reported the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy Chairman Bambang Widjojanto (BW) to the police for allegedly giving false testimony in a regional head election dispute case.

"The case is based on police report no. LP/67/1/2015/Bareskrim, dated January 15, 2015," Senior Commissioner Rikwanto, a spokesman of the National Police, stated here, Friday (23/1).

Sabran reported BW to the Police's Crime Investigation Department (Bareskrim) for allegedly giving false testimony in the Constitutional Court in 2010 regarding the regional head election in West Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan, he remarked.

"The reported person had allegedly given false testimony under oath," Rikwanto noted.

Sabran, a politician of the ruling party, PDIP, is a member of the Commission III of the House of Representatives for the 2014-2019 period representing Central Kalimantan.

Following the report by Sabran, Bareskrim named BW a suspect and arrested him for questioning on Friday, at 7.30 a.m. local time, when he was driving after dropping his son to elementary school.

The police denied claims that the naming of BW as suspect is linked to the naming of Commissioner General Budi Gunawan as suspect by the KPK after President Joko Widodo appointed Gunawan as the sole candidate for the national police chief's post.
