REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The global maritime axis concept echoed by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo should be backed by concrete steps that can be seen by the public, according to the People's Coalition for Fisheries Justice (Kiara).
Kiara is a non-governmental organization established to strengthen fishermen groups and the people living in coastal regions and small islands in order to obtain protection and welfare from the government.
"After more than 100 days of the Jokowi-JK government, the concept of world maritime axis remains a discourse without any concrete steps," Kiara Secretary General Abdul Halim noted here on Monday (16/2).
He stated that in the Revised 2015 State Budget (APBN-P 2015), the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Environment received budgetary support, but unfortunately, it was just used to finance the employees and inter-ministerial meetings.
According to him, the budget should have actually been used to harmonize the policies relating to the management of Indonesian Islands Sea Lane (ALKI), which is considered more significant in realizing the world maritime axis concept.
The Kiara secretary general also urged the government to immediately use the budgetary support to improve the quality of port services in Indonesia and to uphold the mantle of bureaucracy.
