REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEULABOH -- Two traditional fishermen, who went missing in Simeulue District's waters, Aceh Province, amid bad weather on Saturday, were found alive by members of the local search and rescue (SAR) agency, a rescuer stated here, Monday.
According to Coordinator of the Simeulue-based SAR Agency Dwi Hetno, Zulfikar (40) and Pen (30) were found on board their green boat on Sunday after a three-and-a-half hour search operation.
"Torrential rains and storm hit their boat while they were headed from their home base to their targeted fishing site on Saturday. They were then reported missing by their families, as they did not arrive back home the day after the one-day fishing trip," he noted.
Their families reported that they might have gone missing around the southern part of Batu Berlayar Island and the western part of Siumat Island, he remarked.
Based on the report, the SAR members were then deployed to the areas and found them alive along with their ill-fated boat. The two fishermen informed the search workers that they had escaped the extreme weather by taking refuge on Batu Berlayar Island until the weather returned to normal, he added.
