REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo is facing a big challenge to restore the credibility of its government in enforcing the law in the second year of his administration, according to the Transparency International Indonesia (TII).

"The credibility of his government on legal enforcement happened to be tarnished as a result of the criminalization of anti-corruption activists, the leaders and investigators of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)," TII Secretary General Dadang Trisasongko said here on Sunday.

Dadang said that the accusations leveled against anti-corruption activists and leaders of the KPK had been going on for 10 months and continued to reduce the public trust on police and the prosecutors.

"Joko Widodo must order the police and prosecutor office to stop criminalization practices," he said.

Dadang said that the focus that the government had to begin in its second year under the Joko Widodo is to ensure the implementation of reforms in the police and prosecutor institutions.

The Joko Widodo - Jussuf Kalla government also has a homework to accomplish with regard to the weakening of the KPK.

Dadang is of the view that political consolidation after Joko Widodo's election as president is seemingly not yet finished, even within his supporting political parties.

"They have different interests which are even contradictory to the directions of Joko Widodo's priorities. These conditions influence many things, for instance, the President seems to have no much role regarding the initiative to revise the KPK law and the criminalization process," he said.

Dadang is of the view that the President should take a firm attitude in rejecting the revision of the KPK law or other legislation programs which have the potential to weaken the KPK and the Draft Law on National Remission.

The government of President Joko Widodo will reach one year on Tuesday, October 20, 2014.

After one year of Joko Widodo's government, there are still many problems remaining unsettled based on his promises during the election campaigns as contained in his Nawacita (nine national priority) programs.
