President's Cup as momentum for Indonesian football reform

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo said that the President's Cup tournament success could serve as a momentum to reform Indonesian football.

Seeing public enthusiasm in President's Cup final match, Jokowi was optimistic, Indonesian football can rise from adversity. Moreover, he also believed that Indonesia has a lot of potential players.

"I saw it can be momentum to improve our football. Therefore, I invite all Indonesians to keep moving to make Indonesian football get best place in society," said the President, at the State Palace, Monday (19/10).

If the football industry is well managed, Jokowi was also optimistic that Indonesia is able to align with world football clubs. He added, the problem of Indonesian football was a bad organizational management.

There were money to be corrupted so that players did not get right as they should. So that there were clubs that could not survive, and even there was a football match that the score had been set from the beginning.

Therefore, after President's Cup, Jokowi instructed an audit on the management of football in Indonesia. So that the prize for the winner could be received.

"I will ask for audit. Is it true that Persib receive Rp 3 billion?," Jokowi added.
