REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDAR LAMPUNG -- Lampung Department of Industry stated the biggest robusta coffee production in Indonesia comes from Lampung. In addition, 70 percent of exports of dried coffee beans also come from Lampung.
According to Head of Lampung Department of Industry, Toni Tobing, Lampung is the largest robusta coffee producer in Indonesia, with a plantation area of 154,168 hectares (ha). Lampung is capable of producing 91,917 tons of dried coffee beans.
"Even 70 percent national coffee exports came from Lampung coffee beans," said Toni, in Bandar Lampung, Thursday (19/11).
He explained, the robusta coffee in Lampung has been awarded Certificate of Geographical Indications on 13th May 2014. While, the community has been awarded Public Geographical Indications (MIG) in West Lampung, Way Kanan, and Tanggamus.
According to him, in the world there are only three countries of robusta coffee producers, namely Indonesia, Vietnam and Brazil. So that market share of robusta coffee from Lampung is still widely opened in the global market.
"By considering Lampung's robusta coffee as one of Indonesia's cultural heritage, it can be a trigger for development of coffee plantations, both in terms of natural resource management, seedling rejuvenation, capital and economy of coffee farmers and businessmen in Lampung," he said.
