REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- West Java Provincial Government maintained rice production target of 12.068 million tons. It was derived from 2.022 million hectares of rice fields.
"The long drought is causing land drought of 122 thousand hectares and puso of 49 thousand hectares. Rice production in West Java was predicted to fall," said West Java Governor, Ahmad Heryawan, in a press release, Monday (7/12).
However, various efforts was conducted not to make rice production decline. This year, there was Implementation of Integrated Crop Management (GP-PTT).

Rice productivity in West Java could increase by 5.9 tons per hectare or above national productivity of 5.1 tons per hectare. So that West Java still became a contributor to national rice by 17 percent.
The harvested area was still 1.94 million hectares with a productivity of 62 dry grain per hectare. In addition to intensification program, the rain would begin to fall in January and February 2016.
Aher welcomed the policy of central government not to import rice this year. According to him, it happened because this year Indonesia could meet national food needs.
