REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The two-day International Conference of Islamic Media (ICIM), aimed at supporting the global struggle for Palestinian independence through mass media, ended here on Thursday with the issuance of the Jakarta Declaration.

"This conference has agreed on the consolidation of international Islamic media," President of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid stated while reading out the declaration here on Thursday.

In general, the declaration serves as an effort to continue the struggle to liberate Palestine and Al Quds, particularly through the mass media, he noted.

The conference, which brought together representatives from 50 countries, is believed to be an effective platform to continue the struggle for Palestinian independence in line with the outcome of the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Jakarta on March 6-7 this year.

Chief of the event's steering committee, Yakhsyallah Mansur, remarked that the conference produced two important agreements; first, strengthening the image of Islam as a Rahmatan Lil Alamin (blessing for the universe) religion through the mass media; and second, highlighting the issue of Palestinian independence, which has been overshadowed by other issues, such as the Arab Spring and conflicts in Islamic countries.
