REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GORONTALO -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will inaugurate the operations of a 4x25-megawatt (MW) capacity gas engine power plant in Gorontalo on Friday as part of the government's target to generate 35 thousand MW of electricity.
The Gorontalo power plant is located in Jalan Trans Sulawesi Maleo, Rural District of Paguat Pohuwato, Gorontalo Province.
On arrival at the inauguration site, President Jokowi and his entourage will be offered a brief tour of the plant by Regional Director of Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara of the State Electric Company PT PLN Mahnison Masri.
During his official visit, the president will also be accompanied by Director General of Electricity and Director General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Also present at the venue were Gorontalo Governor Rusli Habibie, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno, Chief of the Presidential Staff Office Teten Masduki, and PLN President Director Sofyan Basir.
Basir in a written statement remarked that the power plant project's construction was started on September 10, 2015, and was targeted for completion in less than six months.
The Gorontalo power plant has been serving the public since April 11, 2016.
The operations of the Gorontalo power plant system was the answer to North Sulawesi and Gorontalo provinces' electricity needs and to increase the electrification ratio by up to 84.4 percent.
The current peak load in the Gorontalo electrical sub-system was 85 MW, and the number of subscribers had reached 235 thousand by the end of May 2016.
The power plant in Gorontalo will help to meet the demand of 35 thousand new customers across the province.
