REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SIDOARJO -- State owned airport services company PT Angkasa Pura I in Juanda, responsible for the management of the Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, will have the airport operating round-the-clock during the upcoming Eid holiday.

General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Juanda Yuwono said in Sidoarjo, Wednesday, that the airport would be operating round-the-clock starting 10 days before the Eid day, until 15 days prior to the festive holiday this year.

He also said that the extended operational hour was aimed at catering to passengers who would be traveling to their hometowns for the holidays.

"In the future, we will hold a coordination meeting with the relevant stakeholders to discuss the airport's readiness for this purpose," he stated.

He explained that the Juanda International Airport had been operating from 5am to 11pm daily, as improvement works were being carried out on its runways.

"However, during the Eid holiday season, the works will be suspended, and the airport will be operating for 24 hours daily to accommodate passengers," he remarked.

He further said that other preparations included deploying additional customer service personnel.

"We will also open 'Eid Posts' at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2," he revealed.

The post will have representatives of all stakeholders, including immigration, customs, search and rescue team, military and police force personnel.

"Initially, the Juanda International Airport could only cater to small planes, but now, it can accommodate airplanes with wide bodies having capacity for over 400 passengers," he pointed out.

One of the wide-bodied airplanes, he mentioned, was the one used to carry passengers to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, for Umrah.

"The Umrah carrier can fly out from the Juanda airport straight to Madinah 13 times within a week," he maintained.

He stressed that the preparation measures would continue to be taken to ensure the ease of homecoming during the Eid holiday from and to Juanda International Airport.

"It also includes adding more flights to carry passengers during the holidays this year," he concluded.
