REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Interior Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said not to use Government Regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) to open the deadlock on the discussion of the revision of Law on General Election Organization.

Tjahjo said the government expected the decision of five crucial issues would be ended in agreement by the special team of general election. Therefore, the House of Representatives (DPR) was asked to avoid deadlock and to bring the issues to plenary voting.

"The government expected for voting, and another option like lieu of law should not be issued easily, the spirit of deliberation should be put forward,” said Tjahjo to reporters in a press release on Sunday (June 18).

The government expected the discussion would be finished in special team as DPR had conducted intensive lobbies with the members of team, leaders of fractions, leaders of political parties and government. He hoped it would end in an agreement of five crucial issues.

"The five issues were related to each other with the interests and strategies of government and political parties,” he said.

Government and the special team planned to make decisions on five crucial issues in the draft of law on general election. It would cover the presidential threshold, parliamentary threshold, general election system, vote conversion methods and regional quotas.

"The special team agrees to make decision level I on Monday at 02.00 p.m. We also agree that today to Monday would be the process of cross fraction lobbying,” said Chairman of the Special Team for General Election Lukman Edi on Wednesday (June 14).

Lukman said it was based on the lobbying of fractions, head of fraction groups and the government in a follow-up meeting on Wednesday. All the fraction and the government agreed to continue lobbying until an agreement on Monday.
