REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said National Police's plan to establish a special anti-corruption detachment (Densus Tipikor) in the police is still a proposal. He asserted the proposal will be discussed in restricted meeting.

"We will discuss it in restricted meeting next week," Jokowi said on Thursday (October 19).

He let Coordinating Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto to explain details of the proposal. "Ask him about the detail," he told the reporters.

Earlier, National Police Chief Tito Karnavian stressed that the establishment of a police detachment specially assigned to combat corruption was not meant to outshine KPK. However, it rather to boost its capacity to handle graft cases.

Tito asked the media not to extend the polemic against the plan to establish Densus Tipikor.

"Do not compete my comment with other's comment which was not represent his complete perspective," he reiterated.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) previously has expressed his objection to the process of forming a special anti-corruption unit in police.

JK stated National Police did not need to form special anti-graft squad, just like Special Detachement 88, the Indonesian Special Forces counter-terrorism squad.

He assessed KPK existance is adequate to combat corruption. He added the existence of other institutions or agencies must become as an amplifier to KPK.
