REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,  JAKARTA — Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo stressed government has commitment to build good governance, including efforts to prevent corruption. His statement came on the commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2018 at Bidakara Hotel, in Jakarta (Dec 4).

“Our country is in the stage of consolidating democracy to realize a more effective and efficient relationship between central and regional government, accelerating bureaucratic reform in an effort to improve the regional economy," said Tjahjo on (Dec 4).

Tjahjo explained his view related to 2019 democratic agenda. He said Indonesia adopted presidential system of government.

“There are stages in realizing efficient democracy, namely trimming, fighting the poisons of democracy and parasitic democracy," Tjahjo added.

Tjahjo emphasized the commitment to fight the poisons of democracy in the process of electing regional heads, members of House of representatives (DPR), Regional Representative Council (DPD), and Regional Legislative Council (DPRD). The mechanism for providing political party financial assistance which in fact in a modern democratic country political party as a pillar of democracy must be considered.

Tjahjo also commented on corruption cases that ensnared central and regional state administrators. He also talked about red-handed operation by Corruption eradication Commission (KPK).

“To prevent graft cases reoccur, political parties must fix and prepare its best cadres,” Tjahjo added.
